Hello, and welcome to my 2015 JOGLE End to End ride page. JOGLE stands for John O‘Groats at the northeast corner of Scotland, to Land’s End at the southwest corner of England. Every year many people undertake the journey on bicycles, walking, running, etc. (Some people do LEJOG and go south to north as this is the general direction of the prevailing winds in the UK…) I’m doing it by bicycle, to mark my 50th birthday. Below are current maps and elevation profiles of each day’s planned itinerary. I’m riding for 14 days in total.
The ride will be solo and unsupported. I will be staying at B&Bs and guest houses along the way. I’m not riding for a charity or as part of an organized event.
Routing is being determined by Brouter, and displayed on an Android smartphone using Locus Pro, with maps by OpenAndroMaps. I’m relying primarily on a custom Brouter profile created by a number of contributors at the German velomobile forum. (Primarily the work of Volker D, thanks!)
Once the ride commences my actual location will be visible here in real-time thanks to Spotwalla and the Spot satellite messenger I’ll have on the bicycle.
If you want to see all of the ride history, in the Spotwalla window, click on JOGLE 2015, and select ‘ALL’ for history. Otherwise Spotwalla will truncate the path.
The Plan:
I’ll be taking the sleeper train from London to Inverness, then local train service from Inverness to Wick. The train arrives in Wick at 14:56, and then there will be the relatively short ride from Wick to John O’Groats.
